RLSC Annual Report 2025: A Year of Remarkable Growth

Published 13:36 on 12 Dec 2025

Rudyard Lake Sailing Club's 2025 Annual Report reveals an extraordinary year of achievement, with the club thriving.

President Jim Smith and Commodore Matt Gardiner describe 2025 as a "Year of More" more volunteers, more sailing, more racing, and more community spirit than ever before. The numbers tell an impressive story: 28 members raced for the first time thanks to the groundbreaking Novice Summer Race Series.

The newly introduced Friday evening Novice Series proved transformational, with nearly 30 boats participating across five weeks. The series attracted 36 competitors ranging from age 6 to over 60, racing in 12 different boat classes from Oppies to Albacores, all supported by experienced club racers who volunteered their time and expertise.

Radio sailing emerged as the region's fastest-growing club, racing 51 weeks out of 52 and completing a purpose-built storage facility. The section hosted its first MYA open meeting with a full entry of 20 boats from around the country, while the SUP section grew to 180 members with an expanding calendar of social paddles and events.

Youth sailing remained strong with 56 children participating in 15 Jybaz sessions, while 15 adults completed sailing courses and 60 young people attended the School Activity Day. The club's first junior entry in the Southport 12-hour race showcased remarkable resilience, with the team completing the event with just one capsize despite challenging conditions.

Socially, the club launched "Live at the Lake" a popular gigs-with-dinner series that attracted members from all sections. The refreshed bar opened more than ever before, supporting everything from novice racing to major celebrations, while remaining profitable despite significant infrastructure investment.

Looking ahead to 2026, plans include expanding the Novice Series to run most Fridays throughout the season, enhanced race training programmes, instructor recruitment, and continued investment in club boats. With 68% of members having joined within the last four years most new to sailing the focus remains on supporting newcomers through engaging programmes while maintaining the volunteer spirit that built the club.

The full Annual Report is now available below, providing detailed insights into every aspect of club operations, from racing and training to finance and facilities.
