Why Our RYA Powerboat Level 2 Courses Are Scheduled Flexibly
If you're thinking about taking the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course with our sailing club, you may notice that we rarely advertise fixed course dates in the same way many training centres do. There's a very good reason for that and it's all about giving students the best possible training experience.
A Practical, Hands-On Course
The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is an intensive two-day practical course designed to give students the confidence and skills needed to safely handle a powerboat. During the course, students learn:
- Low-speed close quarters handling
- High-speed manoeuvres
- Man overboard recovery
- Launching and recovery techniques
- Rules of the water and safety procedures
- Driving in a variety of conditions
Because the course is highly practical, students spend a significant amount of time on the water completing training exercises.
Why We Prefer Midweek Training
Many of the exercises on the course require open water and plenty of space to manoeuvre safely. On busy weekends, the lake can become crowded with sailing boats, paddleboards, kayaks, and other water users. While this creates a fantastic atmosphere for club activities, it is not ideal for powerboat instruction.
To ensure students can complete manoeuvres safely and without unnecessary interruptions, we normally run Powerboat Level 2 courses during quieter midweek periods when the lake is far less congested.
This allows:
- Safer training conditions
- More uninterrupted time on exercises
- Better opportunities to practise manoeuvres
- A more relaxed and effective learning environment
Flexible Scheduling Works Best.
We understand that taking two weekdays off work is not always easy. Because of this, fixed course dates often don't work well for many potential students.
Instead, we ask interested students to contact our Chief Powerboat Instructor directly. This allows us to arrange course dates that work for both the instructor and the student wherever possible.
This flexible approach helps:
- Students plan around work and family commitments
- Instructors choose the best lake conditions
- Courses run with maximum effectiveness and safety
Interested in Taking the Course?
If you would like to gain your Powerboat Level 2 qualification, we'd be delighted to hear from you. Simply contact our Chief Powerboat Instructor to discuss availability and agree suitable training dates.
By arranging courses individually, we can provide a better learning experience and ensure every student gets the most from their time on the water. Once a course is arranged any remaining places are advertised.
Please note: As a RYA training centre we can only train club members, however, membership and the PB2 course costs are very competitive.
