Commordores Cogitations #8

Only 8 cogitations so far this season….shows how busy I have been. Its great to see that Ian is already growing nicely into becoming Commodore next year and upholding the tradition of great communications with his Rudyard Ruminations. I just want to say a huge thank you to him and the rest of the team as I have been away and busy over the last few months (work I’m afraid!)

Sunday Racing

Whilst the wind was not great, the sun was out, it was warm and we had some fantastic sailing from our Juniors. Shay Dawson came SECOND out of 15 boats in the main Folkes race, and his sister Erin was 6th. Fantastic, and watch out Lucas Barrow, you are no longer top of the Junior Leaderboard!. Its great to see that Shay has already done more than enough races to qualify for the series and at least 3 or 4 other juniors are snapping at his heels.

Early Evening at Southport

This is coming up on the 9th and 10th September – Saturday midday to Sunday Midday. For those who have been before, we are entering again. It would help no end if you could email me mark@jacot.co.uk if you are planning on coming so I have an idea of numbers. Thanks to Larry for volunteering to take the boat down. If the usual folks can get down early on Friday and stakeout the traditional Rudyard slot that would be fine.

If this means nothing to you (to coin a song phrase – Ultravox – Vienna) then read on. This is the equivalent of Le Mans on water, one boat, multiple crews, how many laps including sailing through the night. Its a fab social event, with discos, beer tents and much much more as well as sailing. The more helpers the better. So all new members (including Families), why not come down and join us either on the day or overnight. Help always needed to cheer on the rudyard boat, count laps, help with change overs. For more info read this handy guide to Southport from last year. Email me Mark@jacot.co.uk if you are interested or want to find out more, or ask any members down at the club.

Our next social is a Barn Dance on 16th September, followed by Trophy Day with founders race the next day on Sunday. So pop the evening in your diary, more details to follow soon.

Home School Sailing Project

Good to see this has been generating more PR, latest article by the RYA is here. Thanks again to Trish and Claire for the inspired idea and to all those who came along and helped to make it a success.
