Commodore’s Cogitations #9

Thank You

I want to start this weeks update with a general thank you. Its amazing the way the club keeps running so smoothly, and this is often down not to the committee members but the miriad of other people who step in and fill gaps as required. Just over this weekend here are a few (not wishing to embarass people but I thought I would mention a few). Brian and Fred sorting out locks and the boiler, Sharon stepping in and producing a fabulous meal on Sunday, and David looking after the galley with no other help today, Dennis who has now fully repaired the blue and red rescue boat engines, Maurice clearing up after the wedding to make sure the patio was swept and tidy, the bar staff who ran the wedding on Saturday, taking over £1400 over the bar featuring Dave “Jagerbomb” Richards with support acts, Larry and Bruce sorting out the Enterprise ready for the 24 hour race, everyone who keeps Kip company down at the club…..I could go on, thats just a random selection. Thank you folks.

Upcoming Events

9/10th Sepember is Southport 24hr Race. This is a great event, would be good to see both experienced sailors down (we need a few more if the weather looks heavy) and any non sailors/novices, its a fab social event – listed in the Top 50 sailing events worldwide to do. More details here.

16th September is our next social, a barn dance/celidh (don’t ask me to explain the difference) and pie supper. Great opportunity for a fun evening, new members most welcome, its a great way to meet up with other members. More details here

17th September is Trophy Day – a one day regatta with 5 races starting at 11am with lots of trohpies and prizes to win

Trafalgar Cannon

We have not run a Tralfagar day for a few years, so the sailing committee (well to be more precise, Geoff Holmes Senior HRO suggested it and I said great idea) has decided to award this for the LAST Folkes Race of the season on Sunday 22nd October . This means TWO trophies on this day – the other is the Harold Davies trophy in which any thing can happen and anyone can win. Last year Grace won this one which is the biggest trophy in the club!!!.

Next Season

I’m starting work on next years calendar, so please could you give some thought to suggestions. Any ideas for changes, social events and other topics, let me know.
